Shoulder Treatments
- Shoulder Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic and surgical procedure performed for joint problems. Shoulder arthroscopy is performed using a pencil-sized instrument called an arthroscope.
- Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair
Surgery to repair the rotator cuff has traditionally been done through a large shoulder incision, about 6-10cm long, and the muscle over the rotator cuff was separated. Newer, advanced surgical techniques have been developed to minimize pain and recovery time.
- Rotium Implant
Implant has been shown to increase the repair strength by enhancing the regeneration of healthy tendon tissue thru nanofiber technology.
- Labral Repair
Traumatic injury to the shoulder or overuse of the shoulder by excessive throwing or weightlifting can cause a labral tear. In addition, the ageing process may weaken the labrum, leading to injury secondary to wear and tear. Shoulder labrum reconstruction is a surgery to repair the torn labrum.
- Bicep Tenodesis
The biceps muscle, located in the front of the upper arm allows you to bend the elbow and rotate the arm. Biceps tendons attach the biceps muscle to the bones in the shoulder and in the elbow.
- Total Shoulder Replacement
Total shoulder replacement surgery is performed to relieve these symptoms. In this surgery, the damaged articulating parts of the shoulder joint are removed and replaced with artificial prostheses. Replacement of both the humeral head and the socket is called a total shoulder replacement.
- Reverse Shoulder Replacements
Reverse total shoulder replacement, is an advanced surgical technique specifically designed for rotator cuff tear arthropathy, a condition where the patient suffers from both shoulder arthritis and a rotator cuff tear.
- Management of Fractures
A bone fracture is a medical condition in which a bone is cracked or broken. It is a break in the continuity of the bone. While many fractures are the result of high force impact or stress, bone fracture can also occur because of certain medical conditions that weaken the bones, such as osteoporosis.
- Second Opinion/Revision Shoulder Surgery
You as a patient have the right to the proper care of your shoulder condition. You also have the right to be comfortable and knowledgeable in the recommended treatment course with your surgeon.
- In Office Ultrasound for Rotator Cuff Tear Diagnosis
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is an injury assessment technique that uses sound waves to create images of painful or injured soft tissues in the extremities. The images are transferred to a computer and then read by Dr. Badman to give an accurate assessment, helping to guide the treatment and rehabilitation process.
- Arthroscopic Superior Capsular Reconstruction
Patients with massive irreparable rotator cuff tears are typically met with very limited options. When conservative measures such as injections and therapy have failed and patients continue to have pain, recent trends have been to surgically proceed with reverse shoulder replacement.
- Lower Trapezius Tendon Transfer
Lower trapezius tendon transfer is indicated for patients with a massive rotator cuff tear and loss of external rotation strength of their arm. Patients are unable to control their arm in the horizontal plane and cannot maintain their arm in the position of a throwing motion. On some occasions, patients can lift their arm above their head but can’t rotate it in space.
